The 77-year-old actress has hardly any wrinkles on her extremely well-preserved face, but vehemently denies going under the knife. Instead, she insists her youthful looks are the result of “discipline”, portion control and good genes, and not cosmetic procedures.
“Cosmetic surgery frightens me,” the veteran actress said. “Botox, I think, is poison, I would never put it into my face, and I’m needle-phobic.
“I spend a lot of time keeping my face out of the sun and taking care of my skin and wearing make-up. The secret is discipline, certainly, and portion control, though I do have indulgences.
“I was also given a very good set of genes, so I decided I was going to do the best I could to make the best of them for as long as I could.”
Joan shot to fame when she starred in US soap Dynasty in the 1980s. She started acting when she was 18, and has had an extremely long and successful career.
Looking back, she is proud of what she has achieved, and is very glad she isn’t starting out her career today, as actresses are expected to be so thin.
“I’m not a fan of that look, are you? In Hollywood, the girls are forced by the studios to look extremely thin,” she told British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.
“When I first went to Hollywood years and years ago, I was nine stone and they made me go down to eight and a half. Now, eight and a half stone is considered fat.
“I really don’t care what actresses look like, I’m only interested in the movie or the play. But I feel sorry for those who have to live on a lettuce leaf and a cucumber slice.”
