New York in April

Anna Wintour

New York was a whirlwind of activity and so many wonderful things happened when we met editors and writers from various women’s magazines. Believe it or not, Jenn Humphrey and I were seated in the Vogue offices when I realized that the woman walking towards me was Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue Magazine. I could hardly believe my eyes! I flashed a smile that she returned and now it gets even better…While waiting to speak with another editor approximately two hours later, I looked up and Ms Wintour was again walking towards us! So twice in one day I saw the woman of fashion whose life was chronicled in “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Saturday morning was a hoot because Jackie Silver, my Ageless Sister and author of Aging Backwards – Secrets to Staying Young, secured two tickets to the Sniffapalooza kick-off at Bergdorf Goodman. We smelled lots of yummy fragrances and our gift bags were generously stocked with new fragrances coming to market. One fragrance in particular was exceptional and we loved the top, heart and bottom notes of Orange Sanguine. It is available June 2010 and priced at $145.00.

Matthew Garbes, a makeup artist at Bobbi Brown, showed Jackie how to use a black gel eyeliner under her upper eyelids. Jackie and I were so impressed with the results that she has “Flipped” a video that will post soon on Youtube.com. Once you learn the technique, you may never again line above the lid.

After enjoying the Sniffapalooza and Matthew’s handiwork, we were beyond starving and decided that brunch at The Plaza was just the ticket. Oh my! What a delicious buffet they offered that included raspberry stuffed crepes, eggs, lox, bagels, fresh fruit and a bottomless coffee pot. As we were about to leave, a familiar face appeared and was seated next to us – it was Greta Van Susteren. We wanted to say hello but decided not to intrude on her Saturday brunch.

Saturday afternoon I was busy working with clients helping them perfect the Facial Magic exercises. Tweaking faces gives me great pleasure and I can expend a lot of energy especially when I have two clients back to back so dinner at Joe Allen was our choice for the evening. It was within walking distance from the hotel and let me tell you, the brisk wind was chilly.

Sunday was our day of rest and the weather was warm. We walked and wandered around Manhattan people watching and looking at the sites. We found The Dakota and the Imagine garden that memorializes John Lennon, we sang “What Goes On in Your Mind” with a group of musicians before walking back to the Hudson Hotel to pack our belonging for a very early flight out of JFK.

The highlights – meeting women who run the magazine business, seeing the sensational Anna Wintour, enjoying my very good friends who live in NY and having my Ageless Sister, Jackie Silver, accompany me.
