Help! My neck bands are blindingly apparent!

Ever wonder why when you see women disguising the condition of their necks with cleverly-tied scarves? Wearing turtlenecks and high collars in heat and sunshine? Think they’re hiding flaws because they want to?

The large neck muscle is called the platysma and it is actually two muscles on either side of the neck. As gravity and disuse advances, the muscles pull forward as they lose their firmness. Oh joy! This means that in addition to a flabby neck, the dreaded wattle and a jawline that is fast disappearing, now neck bands are a consideration.

When you see neck bands, this is a clear indication that your neck muscles and consequently your skin, is losing the battle with gravity. Thankfully, Facial Magic can help rehabilitate your neck.

Our facial muscles weave over and under each other attaching themselves to bone on one end and attaching the other end into another muscle or directly into the skin. When you practice Facial Magic you lift the face in a certain way:  upper eyes and forehead, upper cheeks, jowls, pouches, and finally we begin strengthening the neck specifically in Week Three. Week Five is when we target the neck bands.

I’m happy to teach you Facial Magic exercise #10 for neck bands. Remember, performing all 18 exercises will lift and tone your entire face and neck.

Stand with shoulders erect. Head level.

Wrap your bottom lip around your bottom teeth.

Lift your chin to form a taut line between your clavicle and jaw.

Look at the ceiling and hold the contraction for 5 seconds.

Release your jaw, bring your head level. Take a cleansing breath.
