Stress, Nerves & Chronic Inflammation

Stress/nerves/chronic inflammation – all aspects of aging that eventually taxes our immune systems.  What are the causes? What are the remedies?

Pain, redness and swelling are indications that something is amiss but chronic inflammation is a different story because as we age, we can usually feel that there is something going on…something beyond stiffness that is likely caused by our diet, alcohol consumption, our weight and smoking.

The symptoms of chronic inflammation can include fatigue, mouth sores and pain. The longer these symptoms are allowed to go untreated, the more likely other challenges can arise. Challenges that can be debilitating – like developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure and arthritis.

How do we stop this progression of inflammation? First let’s look at our diet…that’s right…what you put in your mouth has a great impact on your continued good health. Beyond over the counter and prescription drugs, food is our best weapon. Bring olive oil, nuts, sardines and other oily fishes into your daily diet along with a spinach salad at lunch and dinner – in hardly any time at all, this will likely produce almost immediate feel better results. Let your dessert be an orange or bowl of blueberries.

There are foods to avoid and you probably know them but I’ll remind you here. White is out…sugar, bread, pasta, rice and everything refined (carbs and GMOs) can cause increased inflammation. Consider this:  red meat might be a culprit. Along with most fried foods, processed meat like hot dogs and sausage may contain chemicals that create inflammation.

In addition to natural foods that promote health, don’t forget your supplements. Vitamin C, Beta Carotene, Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Spirulina, Astaxanthin, Black Seed Oil, Bio-Curcumin, Magnesium Malate, B-Complex and Lysine are suggested. Check with your health care provider for their advice.
