My Favorite “Anti-Aging Detox Food” After a Holiday Pig Out!

Overindulging in yummy foods is easy for me! I love terrific, tasty, well-seasoned and expertly prepared dishes of all kinds.
The smorgasbord of choices while restaurant dining call to me as I walk by diners’ tables, perusing salads, veggies, meats, breads and desserts on my way to my table.
Rarely, rarely do I consume wine or any alcoholic beverages – so my calories are spent on food. Over Thanksgiving, I ate my share of mashed potatoes and gravy, plenty of turkey, sweet potato casserole and of course, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, chocolate pecan pie and pumpkin bread.
With heavy carbs like this, my intermittent fasting rules were broken so I pulled out my worn recipe for cabbage detox soup. This tasty and weight-loss promoting soup is easy to make (I make a large pot) and it’s easy to reheat to have on hand for at least 5 days while my body adjusts to lighter fare.
I am happy to share this with you. Realize I cook for about 10 servings so use a large pot.
Cabbage Soup Detox Recipe
1 ½ – 2 pounds ground turkey
1 large yellow onion – small chop
5 large organic carrots – unpeeled – small chop
3 celery ribs cut lengthwise in thirds, then small chop
6 cups organic chicken broth
1 28 ounce can diced tomatoes
I large head of green cabbage
SPICES/SEASONINGS: thyme, onion powder, garlic powder, Vegeta seasoning, chicken bouillon, red pepper flakes (the Vegeta adds depth)
Brown the ground turkey in a cast iron skillet in a tablespoon of olive oil. Do not break up the meat until it has a good sear, then crumble it. Add 1 teaspoon of thyme while cooking.
In your soup pot use two tablespoons of olive oil then add the onion, carrots and celery. Cook for 10 minutes then add the seasonings and the brown meat from the skillet. Add the chicken broth.
Lastly, chop the cabbage and add it to the pot. Put a lid on it and in about 50 minutes, the cabbage will have softened and cooked.
Salt and pepper to taste. Adjust seasonings to your taste.
Sometimes I add a can of garbanzo beans, butter beans or white beans for added thickness.
Enjoy!
