In What Order Should I Apply My Skincare?
The age old question: In what order should I apply my skin care products? You know you have wondered and squinted trying to read the side of a bottle with tiny directions of when and how much to apply.
WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY
Just think “Thin to Thick”. It’s that easy. And start with a clean face. Prep is essential. A simple CLEANSE, TONE, LIGHT MOISTURIZER, SUNSCREEN for day and load up on the ACTIVE SERUMS and THICKER MOISTURIZERS at night.
Check out our SKIN CARE ROUTINE INFOGRAM followed by the rule explanations.
PREP
RULE 1: CLEANSE
Always use warm to lukewarm water. You want to loosen dirt and hot water doesn’t do that any better than warm. Hot water is drying and harsh. Start by removing makeup, dirt and oil buildup with your cleanser by using circular motions. Pay special attention to your T-Zone and edges of your face. When rinsing, don’t forget your neck and outer edges of your face. You don’t want buildup because you missed it. Exfoliate at least once or twice a week .. gently. Suggested products: Facial Magic 5 Piece Skin Care System.
RULE 2: TONE
Most people choose to skip toners. If you’re one of them, you may be missing out on its multiple benefits. Toners remove deeper-embedded dirt and residues left behind by your cleanser. They’re also full of potent vitamins, antioxidants and botanicals that refresh and awaken your skin.
RULE 3: PRESCRIPTIONS/SPOT TREATMENT
This is the time to put on any prescription medications and/or spot treatments needed. Your skin is squeaky clean and application should be close to the skin for the best benefit. Try to allow five minutes before the rest of your routine in order to ensure the benefits of your prescription or special treatment.
LAYER
RULE 4: START LIGHT
- Serums first. They are thin and you don’t want a heavier moisturizer to render them ineffective. Feel free to layer several depending on the skin concern. However, give each one “a minute” to absorb. You don’t want that “pill effect”. The Cynthia Rowland Multi-Peptide Anti-Aging Serum is a perfect choice. 3 peptides for the price of one!
- Add an antioxidant like Vitamin C. Use a potent one like the Cynthia Rowland Vitamin C Serum.
RULE 5: EYE CREAM
Eye creams are vital. They combat premature aging around the eyes, fine lines and repairs damage. Dab on with your ring finger and you do not need a lot. Try our Facial Magic Under Eye Nourisher.
RULE 6: LOCK IT IN WITH MOISTURIZER
- Daytime: Moisturizer is key to any layering routine because it seals in the serum. Make sure you wear SPF 30 Moisturizer to protect your skin from the sun as well as lock in the serums you’ve used. We recommend our Cell Renewal Anti-Oxidant Protection Plus SPF 30.
- Nighttime: This is the time for more emollient moisturizers and retinol. Your skin is repairing, restoring and regenerating while you snooze. Retinoid is a super ingredient and a MUST for ant-iaging. If Retinols irritate your skin, put it on over a serum or light moisturizer. It will penetrate better without irritating so much. Try our Cell Renewal Retinal Treatment followed by Facial Magic Overnight Sensation.
RULE 7: LETS TALK OILS
Oils are great for the skin and make you look radiant. Less is more though. Put them on dry areas after creams—as a rule, oils can penetrate moisturizers, but not vice versa. Our Cell Renewal Regenerating Carrot Oil is light, quickly absorbs, soothes and contains high levels of anti-oxidants, nutrients, vitamins and healing agents.
Now you know … WHAT ORDER SHOULD YOU SHOULD APPLY YOUR SKIN CARE.
