Exfoliation:  How Often and What to Use

A daily gentle cleanser exfoliant that leaves your face hydrated is usually just the ticket to enjoy softer, clearer looking skin for everyday results but when a deeper effect is required, what at-home products will work for you?

There are many choices of natural, physical, and chemical exfoliation products for at-home use and many price ranges.

There are apricot scrubs, sugar scrubs, papaya and green tea scrubs that will definitely polish your skin, leaving it feeling well cared for in just a few minutes of stimulating scrubbing. Rinse well and follow with your favorite moisturizing cream. Use every 10 – 14 days for best results.

Hyaluronic acid still attracts attention when exfoliators are mentioned. This all-round acid is ideal for oily, acne-prone skin. Hyaluronic acid is touted for its ability to extract moisture from the air and attract it to your skin so it appears plumper. Remember, using an acid means you may experience dryer skin so use your moisturizer daily.

Lactic acid, Salicylic acid, Alpha Hydroxy, and Glycolic acids add a dimension to skincare that will definitely take exfoliation up a notch. Derived mostly from plants and especially fruit like pineapple and papaya, these acids mean business when they’re on your skin. If the label warns to leave on for 10 minutes, it’s there for a reason. These acids not only exfoliate but they deeply clean pores.

These acids can be effectively incorporated into creams and lotions and even onto disposable facial wipes. With even semi-regular use, you can improve rough skin, fine lines and skin eruptions.

Some acids are in leave-on formulas as in serums. This is ideal for treatment of dark spots and to minimize the look of pores. Always finish with your best moisturizer and proceed with foundation.

Don’t forget that dermaplaning using a scalpel is a wonderful way to exfoliate dead skin cells along with light and dark facial hair removal.

Nighttime exfoliation is retinol. Always protect your skin from the sun when using this vitamin A based product that treats acne and is one of the most favorite overnight anti-aging products ever. There can be mild redness, dryness and irritation with any product when it is over-used so follow recommended directions for use and keep your moisturizers handy.

Our Facial Magic® skincare is all of the above and more for so that beautiful skin is in your future.
